Traditional porcelain crowns (metal-supported porcelain crowns) are a robust restorative method applied in cases of excessive tissue loss caused by severe fluorosis, trauma, extensive caries, or root canal treatment in the tooth.

While providing resistance against high chewing forces with the cast metal or chrome-cobalt alloys used in its infrastructure, dental functions are regained with the porcelain mass in the superstructure.
